Privacy policy

Overview

CarQnA is a website about cars in Ireland, run from Ireland. We are building an AI voice assistant for drivers, and it is not open yet. This policy explains what personal information the site collects today, how it is used and the choices you have. We keep it short and in plain English on purpose.

What we collect

If you register your interest, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We first email you a link to confirm the address, and nothing is added to our list until you click it. If you send a message through the contact page, we receive what you type, the topic you pick, your browser type and, only if you give it, your email address so we can reply. Like every website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider (Cloudflare), which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, and keeps short-lived logs of those requests. Your IP address is also used for a few minutes to limit how many forms one visitor can send. Without storing your address, we keep a one-way code made from it for 24 hours, so the same address is not sent a second confirmation or welcome email.

Microphone and voice

The voice assistant is not open, and the site does not use your microphone: our site settings tell your browser to block microphone access on every page. We will update this policy before any voice feature goes live, so you can see exactly what it does with your voice first.

How we use your information

To confirm your sign-up and then email you about CarQnA early access, if you asked for that. We do that because you asked us to, and you can change your mind at any time with the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. To read and reply to the messages you send us. To keep the site secure and stop its forms being abused. We do not sell your personal information, use it for advertising or build a profile of you.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that run the site for us: Cloudflare, which hosts and protects it; Resend, which sends our emails and holds the early access list; and Zoho Mail, which hosts the hello@carqna.com inbox where sign-up notices and your messages arrive. All three are based in, or process data in, the United States, so your information may be processed outside the European Economic Area, and their own privacy terms describe the safeguards they apply. CarQnA has no dealership, garage, insurer or advertising partners, and we do not pass your details to any.

Cookies and analytics

We do not set any cookies, and we do not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts on this site. The site remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme by saving that choice in your browser, and nothing else. Fonts, images and scripts are all served from our own domain. The one other address your browser may contact is Cloudflare's own network error reporting (a.nel.cloudflare.com), which your browser uses only if a page fails to load, to tell Cloudflare about the failure. Cloudflare may also set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check that a visitor is not a bot.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and withdraw your consent to our emails at any time. To do any of these, use the contact page or email hello@carqna.com from the address you used. Our early access emails also carry an unsubscribe link. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

Retention

If you do not confirm your sign-up, we keep nothing: the confirmation link expires after 7 days. Once you confirm, your address is kept until we have told you that early access is open, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. Contact messages are kept in our inbox while we deal with them and while they remain useful for improving CarQnA. We have not set fixed time limits beyond that yet, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time. Request logs are kept by Cloudflare for a short period that it sets.
